The quiet cost of leadership
You don’t need
all the answers
When nothing feels certain, your success as a leader depends on your ability to stay grounded. On knowing who you are and what you stand for.
The rest will follow.
That’s what I learned in more than 20 years of global corporate leadership roles and as an executive coach. I supported leaders at all levels navigating intense transitions. I coached senior executives to find their footing in complex environments.
And I was holding space long before I had a name for it.
I grew up in Iceland as the daughter of a political leader and diplomat. My father served in senior roles for decades—respected by many, judged by some, known by all. His leadership was deeply rooted in who he was. He was bright. Steady. Courageous. He stood for what he believed in. And he was always true to his values and his vision. He is my role model to this very day.
The demands of his role came at a cost. The pressure never let up. Day in, day out. Decades-long.
Coaching wasn’t a thing back then. You were expected to figure it out on your own. But even as a child, I felt the gap. There was the strength that leaders show the world. And there is the truth they carry inside.
As you grow as a leader and rise in the organisation, decisions get bigger. So do the stakes. People start acting differently around you. There is more need for discretion. Less room to think out loud. You carry a lot—quietly. And some days, the gap inside feels wider than you’d like to admit.
As a coach, I hold a safe space for leaders where that gap does not need to exist. Where your outer strength and the raw truth inside can coexist. As powerful facets of your true leadership.

“I can’t have this conversation with
anyone else.”
That’s what my clients often tell me.
As a leader, you gear up. Full armour. You lead and deliver results…while quietly containing the turmoil within.
As a corporate leader and mother of a child with disabilities, I understand. To my very core. At work, I stayed composed. I hit my targets and beyond. I pushed myself to have all the answers.
At home, I had more questions than answers. I was always on. For years, I tried every therapy, every tool, every method to help my son, who could not communicate his needs. I was a warrior, fueled by determination and resilience. Desperately trying to control the outcome and secure a good life for him.
Add to that, we had moved to a new country. That I was still performing in a corporate role where uncertainty was the norm. Every year brought a new merger, another restructuring. One year, I had four different bosses in twelve months.
I was burning the candle at both ends. Still, I kept going without realising there was a different way.
It’s only when I stepped back—consistently—that I grew my capacity to live with not knowing.
Find your space to grow
In the midst of all that, stepping back was the hardest thing. But when I did—consistently, I grew my capacity to live with not knowing. I could hold more. The hard moments and embrace the simple ones that often go unnoticed. I could hold more. The hard moments and embrace the simple ones that often go unnoticed.
I learned to just be with my child. To slow down the racing mind. It took time. But I now know how to meet the unexpected with less fear—and more presence.
Coaching offers you that space to step back too. To think clearly and expand possibilities. To lead yourself with intent.
When you lead from a grounded place, you are no longer reacting to pressure or noise, be they internal or external. You get clear on what matters. What doesn’t. And how and where you want to commit your energy and heart.
Uncertainty is not the enemy. It is the source of your resilience, imagination and possibilities.
The moment you stop reacting and start leading from within—that’s when everything changes.

Some are stepping into bigger roles. Others are shaping what’s next. All are moving fast. Often unsure if they are staying true to who they are as the world becomes more complex and unpredictable.

Because you don’t need to do more to achieve meaningful change.
What you need is:
✓ Space to step back from the pressure
✓ Perspective to reconnect with what truly matters—professionally and personally
✓ A thought partner who challenges you and supports you—while helping you take clear, deliberate steps forward
So you can lead with intention and make the kind of impact you actually want to have.
